A Speak Memories biography takes shape through interviews. The person whose story is being told meets with the writer several times over the course of weeks and sometimes months, depending on how ambitious and thorough the completed biography will be. Some people choose to cover a few key incidents in their lives; others wish to explore in great depth the many rich memories and unexamined fragments of the past and merge them into an elaborate statement of who they really are.

The number of sessions and biography length can be pre-determined or left open-ended. Interviews are best held where the person feels most comfortable. Often that is in the home, office, or private getaway, but sometimes in a favourite public place or even on walks in nature. Speak Memories is based in Vancouver, British Columbia but travels to wherever the stories want to be told.
